My name is Andrew Jacobus, and I am from California, America. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Arts in International and Area Studies and also minored in Mandarin and studied at National Taiwan University for one year. After graduation, I taught in Vietnam for 3 months, then moved back to Taiwan and have taught here for three years at the kindergarten and elementary levels. My teaching style includes aspects of communicative teaching along with Total Physical Response. This means that I will focus on language that will be useful in everyday life. I also believe that participation and students’ trying their best is very important in the classroom. I am excited to start teaching here at Columbia English School with you and your children, and I think we will have a wonderful year together.

My name is Andy Meier and I am from America. I have been here since 2007. In class, I like to emphasize creativity and different ways of using English. From the students, I expect neatness, politeness, and participation. I expect that they will arrive on time and properly prepared for class, with all of their work done and their materials ready. While I try to make each lesson interesting and enjoyable, I like to do a lot of repetitive drilling that enhances EFL students’ overall abilities.

Anthony Medina says:
My name is Anthony Medina and I was born in Belize City, Belize. I come from a family of teachers; being raised by a mother who is a teacher, and having an aunt and two uncles who are teachers as well. I have experience as both a classroom English teacher and as a private tutor, and I began teaching in the Taiwanese cram school system about three years ago. I have also taught at Taiwanese companies and have done summer and winter camps that were run by the Taiwanese Government. I see engagement and enthusiasm as the most important factors in a productive language-learning environment, so I am excited to join the Columbia English team to help build on their prior success and leadership.

My name is Ben Peipert and I’m happy to be a member of the Columbia English teaching staff this semester. I’m from the USA, and attended university in Austin, Texas at St. Edward’s University where I got my Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. Later on I got my Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of London. With over 15 years of English teaching experience in Taipei, I have taught all levels of learners ranging from elementary school students to graduate school students to working professionals. However, I have mainly worked with elementary school students. In the classroom it is very important to try to create a positive and enjoyable environment for the students. It is also vital to make every student feel comfortable and willing to speak and work with others. I look forward to working with all of the students to improve and enhance their English language abilities.

Bruce Burns says:
My name is Bruce Burns from Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been teaching for many years now. I first arrived in Taipei in January 2009 and in that time I have taught to a great a variety of ages and class sizes, from large groups of kindergarten students to private adult lessons. I can say, without a doubt, that teaching English in Taiwan has been the best job I have ever held! Regardless of whether it was kindergarten children, elementary students or young adults, I have found every age to be a fantastic experience as they each offer unique learning styles, capabilities and perspectives. I am so grateful to Columbia for giving me a chance to work for their school. I am very interested in developing my skills and becoming a better teacher. I think it’s fair to say I’ve always wanted a career in teaching because I personally love learning but also because I love the idea of being involved in the learning of others and being a positive influence in the lives of my students. I will do my very best to be a teacher worthy of the trust that Columbia and the parents have placed in me.

Chris Linton says:
My name is Chris Linton and I am looking forward to teaching your children over the next year. I am a Canadian from Ottawa, Ontario and moved to Taipei to pursue my passion for teaching. After graduating from Carleton University with a degree in Political Science, I obtained my certification for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Oxford Seminars. I moved to Seoul, South Korea where I taught English classes to children aged 4 to 15 for nearly a year and half. My previous experience in Korea not only helped me develop strong teaching skills and material for young ESL learners, but also cemented my passion for teaching English. While encouraging my students to perform at their academic best, I always try to keep students as engaged as possible. I believe children learn best when they are stimulated and challenged to their full potential. I look forward to meeting you and working with both you and your children towards a comprehensive and joyous year.

I am Chris Seurattan. I have worked in Taiwan teaching English and other subjects for over four years. I am a very active and outgoing teacher that plays a lot of games and learning activities. Children here in Taiwan start their education very young and because of that fact, I believe they need a lot of encouragement and praise to build their confidence. That way learning is easy.

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Christian Ekleberry and I am an American living and teaching in Taipei. I was born and raised throughout the various cities of Texas, with a small stint in Florida. I even went on to do two Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Arts in International Relations at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. In Taiwan, I have taught both children and adults ranging from speaking and presentations, SAT and ACT preparation, critical thinking and textual analysis, and even writing as expression.nI not only stress to students the joy that can be found in having control over your own expression of thoughts and ideas, but I also understand that it takes time and courage to master a new language. I do expect a lot from my students as I believe that we should constantly seek growth and development in ourselves at each stage of our life, but I try to find useful, yet engaging ways for students to learn to unlock their own passion for expression.

My name is Janice Lin and I graduated from Devry University in California, Pomona with a Bachelor degree in Business of Administration: Marketing. I am honored to be your child’s English phonics teacher this upcoming semester! When I was a student, I met some great teachers who made me realize that we may not have a natural English environment in Taiwan, but we can definitely create one for our students. After graduating, I returned to Taiwan to pursue teaching as my career as I would like to be the one who can help my students to succeed in their learning process, just like how my teachers helped me. My goal during this semester is to build up your child’s confidence of learning English and also make sure he or she is happy with what they learn from the class.

Hi, my name is Lesley Chen and I am excited to be your child’s English phonics teacher! I was born and raised in California, and graduated magna cum laude from Middlebury College with a degree in International Studies: East Asia and Economics. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have some amazing teachers that not only cared about my education, but also about me as a student and a person. It is because of these great teachers that I myself wanted to become a teacher. I believe that each child is different – everyone has different personalities, interests, and learning styles. It is part of my teaching philosophy to take notice of these differences and understand that different approaches need to be taken with different students. I hope to create an encouraging and energetic environment in the classroom, and I believe your child will not only learn a lot during class, but will also have a lot of fun doing it!

Since arriving in Taiwan, I’ve taught primary school-aged children at two schools in Taoyuan before moving to Taipei this past July to take a job teaching IELTS. When it comes to teaching children, creating a structured but flexible learning environment is my top priority. Through patience and fun, I’m able to help students reach their potential with speaking English.

My name is Sarah Grzezinski and I grew up in the biggest city in Wisconsin. My first two years of university were spent at UW-Madison studying linguistics, writing, and journalism. I subsequently transferred to UW-Milwaukee for two more to focus on editing and creative writing. I arrived in Taiwan in 2014, and taught English for the past year in Taoyuan. I’ve taught everything from vocabulary, phonics, and reading to grammar, writing, and linguistics, and my students have ranged from age 3 to 14 in class and privately. To be the best mentor for developing youth, an instructor must always be searching for new ways to pique their students’ interest as well as challenge their abilities as they improve their level. Everyone learns in a different way, and successful students are the product of flexible, open learning environments. I aim to create such a space for your children and their growing, amazing brains!
