My name is Aleksandra Cieslikowska and I feel honored to be your child’s new English Teacher. I was born in South Africa and graduated from Damelin College with the focus on Sound Engineering. I have always been fascinated with the Asian culture, and when I got the opportunity to come to Taiwan, I was thrilled. I have been living in Taiwan since 2007, and have loved every minute of it. I have taught students from the age of 2 years old and, up to 21 years old. I have taught everything from grammar, writing, reading, conversational skills, and preparation for the IELTS / TEFL exams. And knowing how the students think, and what their real needs are will not only benefit the teacher in having a smoother class but most importantly it will leave your child feeling excited and wanting to know more about the English language and the culture. I look forward to embarking on this exciting journey with your child!

Anthony Medina says:
My name is Anthony Medina and I was born in Belize City, Belize. I come from a family of teachers; being raised by a mother who is a teacher, and having an aunt and two uncles who are teachers as well. I have experience as both a classroom English teacher and as a private tutor, and I began teaching in the Taiwanese cram school system about three years ago. I have also taught at Taiwanese companies and have done summer and winter camps that were run by the Taiwanese Government. I see engagement and enthusiasm as the most important factors in a productive language-learning environment, so I am excited to join the Columbia English team to help build on their prior success and leadership.

Christine Lee says:
My name is Christine Lee and I was born in Taiwan, but my family emigrated to the U.S. when I was very young. I graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. As much passion as I have for the process of design, my focus in life shifted for personal reasons and I began to teach English; which I find very rewarding. I have taught English to young children for over 8 years. My students range from young school-age children to adults. I am constantly looking for materials and techniques to improve my methods.

My name is Derek Davies and I am very excited to teach at Columbia English Language Program. I grew up in Morris County, New Jersey, USA where I lived in the countryside among many rolling hills and trees. After graduating, I took some time to get some classroom experience as a substitute teacher at my former high school. Soon after, I started working at an educational language group where I taught for a year in Dajia, Taichung. I know that learning a new language can be challenging, but can also be a fun experience. The use of activities and creative projects can help spark interest in learning a new language for children. It is with the resources and curriculum provided by Columbia English Language Program and my love to share ideas and teach, that your child will be able to embrace the world ahead with another language at his or her disposal. I look forward to guiding your child in their learning experience of English.

My name is Janice Lin and I graduated from Devry University in California, Pomona with a Bachelor degree in Business of Administration: Marketing. I am honored to be your child’s English phonics teacher this upcoming semester! When I was a student, I met some great teachers who made me realize that we may not have a natural English environment in Taiwan, but we can definitely create one for our students. After graduating, I returned to Taiwan to pursue teaching as my career as I would like to be the one who can help my students to succeed in their learning process, just like how my teachers helped me. My goal during this semester is to build up your child’s confidence of learning English and also make sure he or she is happy with what they learn from the class.

My name is Jessica Nusbaum and I grew up in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. I got my Bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University. I previously taught for three years in the Taoyuan area. My students have been from 3-12 years old, although kindergarten and first graders are some of my favorites to teach. As a teacher, I encourage children to have fun learning. I try my best to meet each student at his or her own level, and help them to build their confidence. The most important thing is for students to try their best, no matter their accomplishments. That is something worth being proud of. I hope that by teaching students, I can inspire their curiosity.

My name is Jalata "Kalib" Tesfaye and I was born and raised in California, USA. I attended college at San Francisco State University, where I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. After graduating, I decided to change paths to that of a teacher. I came to Taiwan where I have spent many rewarding years helping to foster the love of English in many of my students. One of my goals in teaching is to arm students with the tools and attitude necessary to be successful in whatever they set out to do. In the classroom, I encourage all my students to do their best, and try to answer as best they can and not to give up. Even if a mistake is made, it’s a good opportunity for reflection and for students to grow from it. I look forward to the coming school year and hope to have a fun and educational school year.

My name is Kathryn Carmel Tanco and I am very happy to be your child’s English teacher. I’m an international student that was raised in the Phillipines and graduated at the University of San Carlos completing my degree in Management Accounting, graduating Cum Laude (top student of my class). My goal is to create an exciting environment for the students to learn English. I want them to be excited about going to school and learning new things by incorporating games, songs and other fun activities in my class. Also, since my tutoring experience helped me understand that the students are uniquely different, it is important for me to adjust to each one of them and give them the confidence that they need by giving them encouragement. I will make sure that all of my students can get an equal opportunity to participate in class!

I have six years of experience in education including two teaching ESL with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education. My teaching style is fairly relaxed and individually based. I look forward to interacting with everyone in the coming school year.
