Andrew Jacobus says:
My name is Andrew Jacobus, and I am from California, America. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Arts in International and Area Studies and also minored in Mandarin and studied at National Taiwan University for one year. After graduation, I taught in Vietnam for 3 months, then moved back to Taiwan and have taught here for three years at the kindergarten and elementary levels. My teaching style includes aspects of communicative teaching along with Total Physical Response. This means that I will focus on language that will be useful in everyday life. I also believe that participation and students’ trying their best is very important in the classroom. I am excited to start teaching here at Columbia English School with you and your children, and I think we will have a wonderful year together.

Brooke Miao says:
My name is Brooke Miao. It is my pleasure and honor to join Columbia English Language Program. I was born in Taipei. I finished my primary school in Taiwan, after that I went to L.A, U.S.A. to continue my junior high school and high school. Next, I went to Brisbane, Australia to continue my university degree. I’m very experienced in teaching both adults and children from ages 3-50+; including phonics (proper pronunciation), listening skills, reading skills, grammar structure and conversation skills. My teaching styles are creative and active as well as a focus on their intonations and ability to speak English spontaneously. I like to play interesting games with children in order to build up the confidence through fun games. I will try my best to make them feel a lot of loving kindness, care and mutual understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m looking forward to building relationships with both you and your children.

My name is Joshua, and I am very excited to get to know your children this year! I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelors Degree in media art and a minor in journalism. I was an English head-teacher in Beijing for 5 years before leaving to work on a charity project that I created, and one year ago I decided to live here in Taipei. I have always been a teacher who emphasizes individual attention. Each child is an individual and requires a unique approach to grow. In order for children to truly realize their potential, I find it of utmost importance that they feel secure, comfortable, and respected. I look forward to being given the honor to take part in the amazing phenomena of your child’s growth this year.

Kimberly Li says:
My name is Kimberly Li and I received my bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Davis. I am honored to be your child’s English phonics teacher for this upcoming semester. Growing up in California has allowed me to be fully immersed in a natural English speaking setting. But it is through working in the California public school system with children from various countries, with various language abilities that has opened my eyes to the importance of the English language. It is my aspiration as an English teacher that in the near future my students will also have the luxury of sharing their unique ideas and thoughts in English. The main goal for me as an English teacher is to ensure that my students have a strong grasp of the fundamentals of English - specifically phonics. Through patience, mutual respect, and encouragement, I hope to create a happy and comfortable English learning environment for my students. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with your child. I hope to make this semester an educational as well as a fun filled time for my students.

Sharon Shih says:
Hello! My name is Sharon Shih. I am very excited to be a part of the Columbia English Language Team! I was born in Taipei, Taiwan but moved to the United States of America when I was only a couple of months old. As a result, my native language is English. I grew up in Houston, Texas. I came back to Taiwan to obtain my college degree from Christ’s College with a degree in English with a focus in TESOL. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up. Since middle school, I have worked part time as a private English tutor for students ranging from as young as preschoolers to adults. My goal as a teacher is to create an environment where the students can feel comfortable, safe, and stress-free in the classroom. It is also my goal to not only teach my students but to give them encouragement and motivation as well. Learning phonics is very important and crucial for students as it serves as a foundation for the English language. I hope to develop a love of learning English with my students while having fun!
