Ben Peipert says:
My name is Ben Peipert and I’m happy to be a member of the Columbia English teaching staff this semester. I’m from the USA, and attended university in Austin, Texas at St. Edward’s University where I got my Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. Later on I got my Master of Arts in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from the University of London. With over 15 years of English teaching experience in Taipei, I have taught all levels of learners ranging from elementary school students to graduate school students to working professionals. However, I have mainly worked with elementary school students. In the classroom it is very important to try to create a positive and enjoyable environment for the students. It is also vital to make every student feel comfortable and willing to speak and work with others. I look forward to working with all of the students to improve and enhance their English language abilities.

Brendon Tucker says:
My name is Brendon Tucker. I was born in the United Kingdom but moved to Arkansas when I was five. I studied at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where I received a Bachelors of Science in Geology and a Master Degree of Science in Applied Science. I’m a lifelong student of teaching. Over the past six years, I have balanced multiple teaching opportunities at my home institution. I’ve tutored athletes, volunteered for numerous outreach programs and interned with the National Park Service in a program focused on education and outreach. I’ve also taught seven of my own geology laboratory sections while completing my Master’s program. During these different teaching positions I’ve come to understand that given a proper classroom structure, encouragement and curriculum, students will always surprise their instructors with their wit and creativity. I believe that my job in the classroom is not to simply mold the students to a standard, but to bring out their inner potential. I look forward to the next year with your children.

Eve Yang says:
My name is Eve Yang. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Teaching at Ming Chuan University, and I can confidently say that I’m passionate about two things: teaching and languages. Having learned a second language myself, I’m committed to helping my students develop their linguistic skills and sharing my learning strategies with them. I started teaching in college where I was doing one-on-one tutoring with exchange students, and this triggered my desire to pursue a teaching career. Through my teaching experience, I’ve come to realize that to progress as a teacher, learning is essential. I’m therefore very grateful for the opportunity to better my teaching skills through Columbia, and learn how to integrate Montessori teaching methods into the classroom. I’m honored to be a part of your child’s growth and lead them on the way to acquiring perfect pronunciation with our phonics program. Your child will embark on a wonderful journey of learning here at Columbia!

Joseph Johnson says:
My name is Joseph Johnson. I am from the United States of America and was born in Nevada on the Nellis Air Force base, but grew up in Colorado. I recently graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) with a B.A. in Psychology. I firmly believe that knowledge is the single greatest thing a person can aspire to obtain and that is something I want to impart onto others. In the classroom I believe in first establishing the rules and regulations. Once that is achieved, making the material engaging and stimulating is next on the list. I do my best to engage students with questions as much as possible because the more a student interacts with the material and internally works through it, the more they will understand it. I look forward to a great year!
Kami Chang

Kami Chang says:
My name is Kami Chang. I graduated with a bachelor degree in English Literature from Marylhurst University, Portland, Oregon. Prior to working at Columbia English, I have worked with children ages from 2 to 12 since college. I also work at Taipei Montessori as the in-class English teacher. What I have learned from working with children is that they are undoubtedly limitless towards learning. They are like sponges that absorb everything their surroundings provide them. My job as a teacher is to give them the proper guidance and time they need in order for the growth of learning to happen. I have had the opportunity to teach all the different levels of our phonics classes. A classroom is like a miniature society, I would like to see my students not only have strong English reading and verbal abilities but also learn to respect the space, their fellow students, and the teacher. It is my pleasure to teach your child in this coming school year!

Sharon Shih says:
Hello! My name is Sharon Shih. I am very excited to be a part of the Columbia English Language Team! I was born in Taipei, Taiwan but moved to the United States of America when I was only a couple of months old. As a result, my native language is English. I grew up in Houston, Texas. I came back to Taiwan to obtain my college degree from Christ’s College with a degree in English with a focus in TESOL. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up. Since middle school, I have worked part time as a private English tutor for students ranging from as young as preschoolers to adults. My goal as a teacher is to create an environment where the students can feel comfortable, safe, and stress-free in the classroom. It is also my goal to not only teach my students but to give them encouragement and motivation as well. Learning phonics is very important and crucial for students as it serves as a foundation for the English language. I hope to develop a love of learning English with my students while having fun!
